The quality is kind of bad, it was filmed with a smartphone and during the evening.
There is a much better quality video by Anthony Parker:
BE CAREFUL, this might void your warranty and it’s easy to damage the ribbon cables!
It’s common sense, but turn off your laptop first 🙂
00:56 opening
01:54 replacing the hard disk
03:38 reassembling
Laptop: Asus F555LA-AB31
SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 250GB
For a clean Windows 10 install you can use the Media Creation Tool. If Win10 was activated/upgraded before, you can just skip the menu where it asks for your key. It will activate automatically when it connects to the internet, even if you replaced your hard disk with an SSD.
If you want to transfer the Asus bloatware, you can create a recovery drive with the original OS first, and then use it on the new Hard Disk / SSD. This is useful when you want to return/sell it, or just in case of technical problems.

Thank you. Worked a charm!
Thank You!
Hello everyone,
does anybody know the 3 different sizes of the screws?
I need to order new ones.
You can also swap the motherboards on these badboys with those of better models. All ASUS F and X series of those years use the same form factor. I changed my Pentium N3700 to an I7. Just be careful
Thank you!! Excellent guide! Love the zooms on the fiddly bits! Have been getting smart error and pc crashing. HDD seems fine when plugged into another computer but I finally put the SSD in now! Next stop – replace the old DVD drive with the old HDD drive!
what did you do with your HDD?
make a video to change HDD with DVD drive
Ja joh, een geheime ov kaart 😉
top vid
Thanks for the video. After building a new desktop pc i used the Samsung EVO 840 that was in my old rig to upgrade my laptop after seeing your video. It feels like a brand new machine.
3:46 and 3:54 lol wtf😂 what happened did someone pinch you?
Nice guide bruh, not a single word was spoken, just how i like it
Thank you so much, man .. you are awesome

I only ended up with one extra screw. Thanks for your help sir!
Guys i have a problem with my asus X555U, my hdd broke down so i opened my laptop and accidentaly destroyed the hdd ribbon, now i replaced the hdd with new one, but my ribbon is gone and sometimes it shows me my hdd in bios sometimes doesnt and i cant finish the windows installation… so how important is the ribbon? Is it because of the ribbon or there could be a problem with connection between hdd and hdd board?
what is the diffrence with 2,5 and 3,5? more than they are diffrent lenghts XD is it that one goes to a stationary computer and the other one goes only for a laptop? Kinda unsure since i can only find ssd when i want a HDD, due to the cheap price, on the web.
Thank you very much mate, my computer now has an SSD thanks to you.
yes!My Asus X302U is also 100% HDD,Crap!
hey I actually bumped the area around my hdd & now it's showing to add a good device what should i do??
Thanks… i opened the same laptop and i accidentally dropped the screws, i found them but i didn t remember the right collocation.
thanks for the how-to! do i need to remove the back/bottom cover to remove/upgrade wifi card for this model?
Cheers man, straight forward and simple. Done this a few times before on other laptops, but the recording definitely assisted. Cheers again!
Can you recommend another ssd more than 250mb?
Best video yet. but really power of the battery should be unplugged before changing harddrive in the case you accidentally turn the laptop on.
The ribbon around the hard drive is stuck or glued to the hard drive. Is it ok to gently peel it off?
Good day I'm looking for a battery nos for my F554L ASUS can you help me with a part nos? thanks
Best assembly video for asus notebook. Thanks a lot
auto exposure lock
The pen is for what?
Pieces of crap. Hit one LIGHTLY with my leg and it fell off a PC (maybe 40cm high) and the screen backlight got fucked (on a fucking LED backlit display – how is that even happening?). Now I have to buy a new screen so I can give it back to my client.
I dropped my HP from shoulder height (laptop backpack), in a BRAKING bus, while TRIPPING, basically bodyslammed it corner-first into the bus floor while the bus was also braking (increasing the force). NOTHING.
And the interior is just… UGGHHHH… makes you cringe. It's one of these modern, not-openable-many-times pieces of crap, screen basically glued together with tape (not kidding, have a look, tape is what holds everything together: the actual panel and the light-dispersing foils and polarizing sheets), key-hinges break on first disassembly, internal battery (total fuckup in case of liquid spill).
No, not my kind of thing.
Thank you for a great how to!
I did exactly what you did and it work the first time. I owe you some beers or joints or whatever, hit me up if you're ever in Destin FL. Cheers.
A heads up to anyone swapping the hard drive. You have to not only be delicate with the ribbon cables, you may have to be especially careful with the alignment on the one going over the hard drive.
I just had just had mine burn a wire through the ribbon's insulation while re-seating it after the hard drive upgrade worked for about a month, then the laptop wouldn't turn on and the lights (among some of the things on that board) were acting odd. So when I went to re-seat the cable, one of the wires burnt through the cable's insulation. I don't know if there was underlying issue or if I simply didn't have it aligned just right and shorted something. Just to be clear, the laptop was unplugged and powered off when this occurred so it's likely there is power available unless you go through the trouble of removing the battery first.
Excuse me my asus F555LA is having some terrible noises while playing music it seems like kind of a buzz sound even if i have low volumes it stills buzzes so terribly what can i do ? Even when im just listening to someones voices trough the speakers it still makes the same sound… like grinding noises, as if makes everything to vibrate
