Laptop Liquid Metal Asus ROG GL502VS – 20ºC Difference! – HEAT FIX

This video only shows how to replace the original thermal paste to liquid metal, the results I’ll make in another video.

Asus GL502VS
CPU 6700HQ
GTX 1070

Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut
Thermal Pads 1 mm

English is not my first language

Playing Battlefield 1 the temperature reduces by
-20º C on CPU
-10º C on GPU

Aida 64 Stress Test @ 5 minutes
BEFORE
Offset Vcore default
Idle 45 ºC
Full 97 ºC

Offset Vcore @ -1,35V “Still Throttling”
Idle 51 ºC (probably is higher because I didn’t wait a lot to start the test)
Full 96 ºC

AFTER replacing the paste
Offset Vcore @ 1,35V
Idle 53 ºC
Full 74 ºC

Offset Vcore @ 1,45V
Idle 51 ºC
Full 74 ºC

** NOTE **
I recommend checking this topic before mounting the heatsink
The temperature between CORE 1 and 3 was quite different between 2 and 4.
I had to bend the heatsink support to make a better contact.

Hey I was just wondering if it is really that safe using a toothbrush to clean off thermal paste.

Won’t the toothbrush damage small and fragile computer components?

And also wouldn’t the toothbrush be electrically charged from all the rubbing on the motherboard, potentially short circuiting the laptop?

And did you dip the toothbrush in the alcohol before cleaning the paste off?

Thank you. I have the GL502VM and this demonstration really helped me taking it apart to clean and apply a fresh coat of thermal paste for the first time.

Hi there, thanks for the video, I just changed the thermal paste of my FX503VM yesterday (with some MX-4)for the first time and it runs way better, plus I undervolted the CPU with Throttlestop which helped too!

I have a question though: do you know what is the thickness of all the different thermal pads? I'd really like to change them, but have no idea which one to choose from 0.5mm to 3mm….

Hello, I have same laptop as you have. I replace thermal paste and thermal pads every 6 months, but still I have problems with high temperatures. How it works your laptop after 10 months? Still having good temeratures? Did you check it? I read a lot about LM and I watched a lot of videos, but I'm always afraid because the corrosion.

    thanks.

Was the GPU also stressed out in your AIDA64 test or only the CPU?

I just made the modification, but when I open a game, the laptop restarts, just like if I do some gpu test, what can it be?

Hey man thanks for the video but the other components besides the cpu and gpu in the video, is it necessary to replace them also? I dont think i have enough paste left to repaste all. Is it okay to just repaste my cpu and gpu and leave the rest as they are?

My question is how are the thermals after 20 minutes gaming on 4K+HDR… My issue is the copper itself isn't cooling fast enough so everything overheats

    Have you re-opened it ?
I am about to go LM on a copper heat sink… soooo I am still wondering about long term effects of LM on Copper.
There is NO video out there that shows a laptop Copper heat sink with LM after an extended period of time…
    Good luck 🙂

Gus Videos  hi gus. My laptop model is asus rog gl502vm. I just want to ask. Is the stock film protector ok or should i put electrical tape on top of the film just to be sure before applying the LM? Any advice?

I plan to do the same thing with my Asus G501J( Intel I7 4720HQ,Nvidia GTX 960m) after applying new thermal paste did not help me much with throttling.
What are your long term experiences with liquid metal on your G502? Have you ever checked your heatsink for corrosion caused by the lm? Do the temps still stay 20° lower than before?
Stayed the lm where you applied it or started it to flow in any direction?

Great job man, i hope you can share some experience with me. Sry for bad english!

Great stuff! Wanna repaste my 502 too. There is a video of a gl702, the guy used 1mm and 0.5mm pads on some parts. Will this help to fight any uneven heatsink placement? Or should I just use 1mm pads like you did? Thx!

    Hello Gus,

Why did you go with thermal pads, instead of applying a different better thermal paste?

    With kind regards,

    Jur
