This awesome Vietnamese food is called Bánh Giò, which is a steamed rice flour dumpling filled with ground pork and wood ear mushroom. It’s steamed inside of a banana leaf.
It’s topped with various pork sausages and pickled cucumbers and then doused with tons of hot sauce. THIS IS GOOD EATING!
Though many people eat it for breakfast, you can eat it any time of the day. I’ve had it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner (not all in the same day, LOL).
Different places make it slightly differently, such as small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, or in a pyramid shape. This restaurant makes them very large, more than enough to feed two people.
If you’re in Vietnam and want to try something other than Pho and Banh Mi, definitely give this a try! Don’t forget the hot sauce!!!
A full order with all toppings is 27K VND ($1.12 USD), while just the Bánh giò by itself is 12K VND ($0.52 USD).
